The 2nd Asia-Pacific Water Summit ( 2nd APWS)
5th - 6th February 2012 at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, Bangkok, Thailand

Thailand by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment’s Department of Water Resources in collaboration with the Asia – Pacific Water Forum will hold the 2nd Asia-Pacific Water Summit (2nd APWS) in Bangkok on the 5th and 6th February 2012. The main theme of the 2nd APWS remains the same as in the 1st APWS that is "Water Security : Leadership and Commitment". The 1st Announcement is being distributed to interested organizations.

Leaders and Water

Why the heads of government should come to the Summit?

Water is not just the issue for one sector in particular, such as environment, agriculture, industry, or aid assistance. It is a fundamental resource and as such its sustainable management is at the heart of human security and the social and economic development of nations.

Therefore, strong leadership and commitment from the region’s national leaders is essential.

What does participation by heads of government mean with respect to tackling the amounting water problems?

Participation by heads of government means to continue to put the water issue on top of the regional and international agenda.

The 2nd APWS will bring together leaders from the Asia-Pacific region. It will showcase leadership in decision-making, excellence in practice and innovation, and concrete results that have had substantial impacts, spanning from policy to the grassroots.

What will participants gain from the Summit?

The Summit is an important opportunity to promote active dialogue among regional leaders, and bring about more effective regional cooperation and coordination in water security in the Asia-Pacific. It will provide Asia-Pacific leaders and stakeholders, as well as international organizations the chance to jointly seek solutions on water resource development and management for regional water security with participation from public and private sectors, technical experts, academics and civil society.
